Mingo’s Cave is about adventure in the Caribbean. In it the reader gets to meet quirky island characters, search for hidden treasure, ride along on dangerous boat excursions, learn about the destruction of an Eco-sensitive camp, and seek revenge for a senseless murder.

In 1944, a native boy, Mingo Tamaryn, finds a cave. “Yo needs to stay outta dat cave. Listen to me boy, der ain’t no jumbie, but der is bad spirits and danger. In de bad days, white mens used boats to steal from one another. Der some story dey put der gold in de hole. Mens were kilt in dat hole. Dey jest throw dem down dat hole.”

Mingo almost dies. The location of the treasure cave is once again lost. This time it is locked away in his gentle, broken mind. He becomes a beloved savant at Arawak Camps on the island of St. John.

A physically strong, beautiful young woman, Riley Ferguson, fled a frigid family and found Caribbean paradise. She is a hammock weaver and scuba diver. Riley and Mingo become good friends. He is now a frail old man and tells her fantastic stories of hidden pirate gold.

Leslie Anne Murray, a heavily tattooed, quirky Boston ex pat was attracted to the sexy Caribbean vibe of Cruz Bay. She has spiked hair, tall lean good looks and world wide diving experience and fits perfectly into the pulsing tropical scene.

Jack Basnight from the Outer Banks of North Carolina is having a Caribbean fling. He is a handsome carpenter employed by Arawak Camps.

Tim, who is Jack’s brother, quits the Navy SEALS and shows up on the island. He is convinced to start - up a new scuba operation aboard the fifty foot dive boat, the Marion II.

The beauty of the cobalt water and verdant jungle mask an ugly reality. The ground under idyllic Arawak Camps is worth millions. Slimy land pirates, Captain Jacque and Big Tom plan to cash in. The bulldozers are rumbling and murder cracks the island serenity.
.
Join the crew of the Marion II as they search for pirate gold and try to save paradise.

As with all of his books these are definitely worth the adventure. This one however makes me want to go back to St Thomas and start exploring.

Mingo Cave Caribbean Adventure edition by Chuck Ball Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

For anyone who as had the pleasure of falling in love with the island of St. John, Mingo's Cave is a must read. The author's intimacy with the people of St. John is apparent in his respect for thier colloquialism and depiction of daily life in "paradise". On every page, the reader is gently transported to a place and time that makes it seem possible to feel the tropical breezes of this magical island. I wish I could book my ticket now to go search for pirate's treasure in the Carribean! Kuddos to the author on an exceptional first publication. More please!
Chuck Ball writes this story with artistry.
Great read for the summer and brings back memories of the Island.
My family has been traveling yearly (sometimes more) to St. John for nearly a decade and I simply loved this book. The start was a bit slow, but once Mingo finds his cave, the story flew by. It was so much fun knowing the sights and sounds of St. John and being able to re-live all the times there just by reading this book. Keep it coming Chuck!
My husband and I have made several trips to St. John in the last 10 years. This book takes you over the twisting roads to places we have been on the island, especially Maho. The story is fairly simplistic, but the setting and descriptions give you insight into life on St. John.
Wow! I was reminded that this is the author's first published book, which took me a little by surprise. The writing style is fluent and comprehensible, making it an enjoyable read. It seems that most "new" writers try to force their style on you, where you have to read and reread certain passages just to figure out what the author is trying to say, which then interferes with the overall enjoyment of the story. Not in this book. Very nicely written. Some local history is woven in, nice character developments, and an interesting plot make this book a very good read. A good writer paints pictures with his words so thanks for painting me a picture of this island and it's people.
As a long time visitor to St John including many years staying at Maho Bay Camps, reading this book brought back many memories. Maho Bay Camps and all of St John are truly magical.
Chuck always tells a good story - full of suspense, romance and colorful characters.
As with all of his books these are definitely worth the adventure. This one however makes me want to go back to St Thomas and start exploring.
